Perfect for everyday use, the four white wine glasses in this set are part of the moderately priced Ouverture series offered by the world-famous Austrian wine maker Riedel Crystal (founded in 1756). Having no lead, they are not glass like Riedel's premium glasses, but are made by potash glass and are dishwasher safe. Its thin wheels are cut and polished according to the demanding standards of Riedel, so that the wine flows easily to the tongue. Each glass contains 9-7 / 8 ounces and is 7-1 / 8 inches tall. Although the glasses with shape and size for different types of wine seem common today, when Riedel introduced this idea in 1961, it was revolutionary. Since then, Riedel has continued to refine the glasses to highlight the best features in wines and spirits. Varying the shapes and sizes of the bowls affects the position of the head when it is drunk and where the wine comes into contact with the various zones of taste of the tongue. –Fred Brack
